How do you define joy?

Joy definition

I always thought it had to be some feeling that was produced by a major accomplishment or huge success. I used to measure my joy in ways the world taught me to.

Not anymore.

What brings me joy?

My morning cup of coffee. Well, all the cups of coffee bring me joy. But that first one. Sigh. Pure joy.

And honestly a warm beverage, coffee or tea, any time of the day, brings me joy. The feeling of warmth on my hands, the steam rising from the cup. It’s a hug in liquid form.

And fresh air. Cold, warm, wet or dry.  Simply stepping outside for a minute or two and feeling and smelling the fresh air brings me joy.

The sounds of the squirrels teasing Ollie. It brings me joy!

Ollie being a complete asshole (he’s my dog I can call him that if I want!). Yes, Ollie being an asshole brings me joy! Because Ollie’s purpose here this time around the sun is to be goofy and obnoxious….which always reminds me to be childlike… and see the joy!

Talking to certain people brings me joy. Hearing from someone I haven’t talked to in a minute brings me joy!

Curling up a book brings me joy!

A walk, on a beautiful day, is pure bliss

Hearing my daughter laugh brings me joy!

Hearing my mom sing , brings me joy.

Recognizing our joy is a form of gratitude. The more I see the daily or “simple” joyful parts of my life, the more grateful I’ve become!
